Before you cross
Check mainland entry and Hong Kong return requirements for your passport. On East Rail, look for Lok Ma Chau as the destination. The other branch goes to Lo Wu. Futian Checkpoint is the land crossing; Futian high-speed railway station is a different stop.
Work backwards from when you need to be back in Hong Kong, including the train onward from Lok Ma Chau. Check the crossing hours separately from the MTR timetable. If the return is tight, visit SEG only or move the trip to another day.
At SEG, keep the original guide’s buying checklist in mind: note the model or part number, verify whether it’s new or refurbished, and ask about testing, warranty and returns. Save the Chinese place names before you go.
